I think that the semantic web and web 3.0 are quite similar. They are both about improving the internet for the users, and both conclude of using 'database' like systems to do so.
I think that for the Web 3.0 to happen, it would have to conclude of the semantic web.
However, the semantic web is just an extension of the current web, where as web 3.0 is meant to be a complete new type/style of web all together!
I'd say the overall difference is that the web 3.0 plans to improve lots of things to do with the internet, such as speed, graphics etc, where as the semantic web seems to be focusing on just improving the generation of data.

I like the points you make here about the functions both web 3.0 and the semantic web will bring to the internet as a whole and from seeing how you have put it, I definatly think that they would work better together rather than one or the other!
hey megan,
I also found that both where really similar. What I understood was that a way to make Web 3.0 was to develop the semantic web.
However through my research I did not find many peole who believed the semantic web in an artificial intelligence kind of way possible, and if, it would be in the far future.
Hello. This post is likeable, and your blog is very interesting, congratulations :-). I will add in my blogroll =). If possible gives a last there on my blog, it is about the Monitor de LCD, I hope you enjoy. The address is http://monitor-de-lcd.blogspot.com. A hug.
I'd say that Web 3.0 is less revolutionary than the semantic web -and closer. Most of the elements its pushers describe are with us to a degree already. Semantic (SWWW?) needs a whole new foundation to be developed and to become ubiquitous -and that's maybe not even possible?
On another note, it seems you might have fallen victim to cyber-invasion by a spambot?
