I found it really interesting that Deakin University did 'virtual streaming' of lectures! I think that's really good, but then I do think - if they did that here, would anyone ever go to the lecture in person? I'm not sure they would! So although the face to face option is still available, is it used that much?
I think that I'd probably have been shocked by the fact students 'had' to do at least one online unit, but since this unit, I don't think it would shock me. I'd have probably thought, how do they learn online! I bet it's difficuilt, but I know that it isnt that much different from doing it all face to face - however, I say that - but we still get the lectures, its just seminars we dont, so I suppose thinking of it like that, if you took the lectures away, then I'd probaly find this unit a lot harder, so do think it might be hard for them too.

i like the idea of podcasts, it means you can re-listen to a lecture, for example if there was something you didn't quite get fully the first time or weren't really in the mood to take information in at the lecture, you coul just listen again. Or coming up to exams when you can't find the notes from 1 of the lectures, or simply want to 'refresh' your brain, I think thats a really useful idea.
However, although this has been an interesting unit, I still feel the benefits of the face to face lecture
I liked that you noted that freedom of choice is not necessarily the case with a compulsory online unit. I think this serves well in educating people that it is a trend in new media technology to communicate by newer means as we've all come to do so through this unit its self.
As I've mentione don my own blog, I think that lectures would be the better are of focus online as the primary focus is gaining knowledge and doesnt necessarily demand a repsonse. I think with a seminar, combining communicative forms could be done through online messaging software were everybody is online and interacting in real time so the communication is instantaneous. What do you think?

A few years ago, many students attended and made their own recordings. In the first year, you are advised to make your own recordings.
Why do you think that students now think that someone else should make a podcast for them? Does that say something about new media and produserism?
Peter, I see what you mean about using an online software to do the seminar, but I think it would be mayhem! I have visions of us all logged into a chatroom like software and all trying to speak at once, and random messages popping up about random things here, there and everywhere.
I like the idea of the blogs because although it is not instant, you are able to read it at your ease and if you dont understand something you can re-read it without being distracted by the next message from someone.
Dave, I think it says quite a lot! Lazy came to mind! I rememebr when students use to use 'dictaphones' (excuse spelling) to record lectures, now you never see students doing that (well I havent!). Perhaps it says something about the fact that it is not 'cool' to be seen with recording equipment? As there isnt really anything 'new' media out, that is for recording things is there? It's all stuff that plays recorded stuff, not that records!
